How Closure works:

Before the procedure, patients are given an I. V. sedative and local anesthesia at the incision site.  Dr. Khash Salartash will make a small (less than 1cm) incision or puncture where he will position the Closure catheter into the vein that is diseased.

The catheter omits radio frequency energy to the vein and as Dr. Salartash withdraws the catheter slowly, the vein is closed due to the collagen in the vein wall shrinking.  Once the vein is closed, the deep venous system takes over supplying blood to the lower extremities.

Making Surgery Less Painful©
Minimally Invasive Surgery for Varicose Veins
Healthy leg veins contain valves that open and close to assist the return of blood back to the heart.  superficial venous reflux disease develops when valves that keep blood flowing out of the legs and back to the heart become damaged or diseased.  Approximately 25 million people in the United States suffer from this condition.

Superficial venous reflux disease is progressive - symptoms will worsen over time if left untreated.  As a result, vein valves will often lead to symptoms of:

The venous system is made up of a network of veins, including:

Perforator veins connect the deep and superficial venous systems.  Dr. Khash Salartash, Board Certified Vascular Surgeon, has performed many successful procedures for the treatment of varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency.  He was the first surgeon in Southern New Jersey to provide this technique to our community.  VNUS Closure®, is a minimally invasive procedure to treat symptomatic chronic venous insufficiency and painful varicose veins.  In a comparative trial versus vein stripping, results were in favor of the Closure procedure.  In the past, people who suffered with painful varicose veins had to undergo traditional vein stripping which meant that many incisions were made and the vein was pulled out in sections, using special instruments.  As a result, patients were left with many painful scars and months of recuperation.

With Closure, patients are walking immediately following the procedure, and patients typically resume normal activities within one day.  Patients report feeling little, if any pain after surgery.  Relief of symptoms such as pain, leg heaviness and fatigue occur almost immediately.  Most patients resume work or normal activities within 2 days following Closure.
